What to expect in Therapy
Starting therapy can feel both hopeful and uncertain — and that’s completely natural. At Patch and Bloom Therapy, we understand that reaching out for help is an act of courage. Here’s what you can expect as you begin your therapeutic journey.
The First Step:
Your Initial Consultation
Your first session is about understanding you. We’ll spend time exploring:
- What brings you to therapy right now
- Your personal history, emotional world, and current concerns
- What you hope to gain from therapy
You don’t need to have everything figured out. This session is a safe, open space to talk, reflect, and begin clarifying what healing and growth mean to you.
Building Connection and Safety
A trusting therapeutic relationship is at the heart of all meaningful change.
You can expect:
- A non-judgmental, confidential environment
- Gentle curiosity instead of clinical detachment
- Space for both words and silence
- A therapist who listens deeply and helps you explore your experiences at your own pace
The goal is not perfection — it’s progress, awareness, and self-compassion.
Session Flow and Structure
Each therapy session lasts 50 minutes and follows your emotional rhythm.
Depending on your needs, we may use a mix of reflection, dialogue, and therapeutic tools — such as journaling prompts, grounding exercises, cognitive restructuring, or emotion-focused techniques.
You’ll leave sessions with deeper clarity and, at times, gentle practices to continue between sessions.
The Pace of Growth
Healing is not linear. Some sessions may bring relief, others introspection or discomfort. All are valuable parts of the process. Together, we will:
- Identify patterns of thought and behavior
- Explore emotional and relational themes
- Develop tools for self-regulation, boundaries, and clarity
- Move toward meaningful goals and values
You set the pace — therapy unfolds as you feel ready.
Confidentiality and Ethics
Your privacy and safety are foundational to our work. All sessions are conducted in strict confidence, following ethical guidelines of the psychological profession. Information is shared only with your explicit consent, except in cases where safety or legal concerns require otherwise.
Commitment and Collaboration
Therapy works best when approached with openness, consistency, and collaboration. While your therapist holds the space, you hold the power to create change.
Together, we’ll move through challenges, uncover strengths, and nurture a more balanced, connected version of you.
At Patch and Bloom Therapy, every session is an invitation —
to pause, reflect, and slowly grow back into yourself.
